Communications High School – PSFA Meeting

December 12, 2024 – Call to order at 7:00pm by Janet Schneider

Executive Board Members Present

  • Grant Requests
  • Request for $1500 for Monmouth Teen Arts Festival in March 2025 presented by Ms. Ortner, Maxine Zahler and Lindsay Gilbert.  It is held at Brookdale CC and it is a juried art show and winners can be selected for the State Art Show.  It also hosts various art and creative writing workshops where students can learn new skills and receive feedback  The PSFA has previously paid the registration and transportation costs for 50 students to attend the festival.  The PSFA voted and agreed to pay $1,500 for registration and transportation costs.   
  • Request for the $3,850 to fund the transportation for the senior bus trip to NYC presented by Isabella, Remolina, Kaitlyn Gallagher, and Christie Di Nicolla. The senior class is funding tickets to Hadestown and entrance to MoMa.  The district will source all busing to allow for more favorable pricing.  The PSFA voted and agreed to pay $3,850 to fund the transportation for the senior class.    
  • Principal’s Report – Ms. Bonilla 
  • Ms.  Bonilla is currently working on the budget for the ‘25-’26 school year and is hoping to expand opportunities for the students. 
  • She encouraged students and families to attend the upcoming Coffee House. 
  • CHS will be hosting an alumni event next week with the hopes of fostering a strong CHS network for students and alumni. 
  • Senior Switch Day is next week.  
  • Ms. Bonilla is planning for the Spring and Fall and she is looking for parent feedback on classes as well as the class schedule (i.e. block scheduling vs a bell schedule).  Please email her with your feedback.   
  • Ms. Bonilla reported that the art gallery walls are getting set up and thanked the PSFA for their support. 

  • President’s Report – Janey Schneider 
  • Super 50/50  – 191 tickets sold which resulted in total proceeds of $19,100 to the PSFA.  The first-place winner will receive $5,730, second-place winner will receive $2,865 and third-place will receive $955.   The drawing will occur at 8pm following the meeting.    
  • Janet thanked Mx. Gesin for her presentation regarding AI for the November parent chat.  If parents have any suggestions for future presentations, please reach out to the PSFA.  
  • The PSFA delivered holiday gifts to teachers and staff of $25 Amazon gift cards this week. 
  • The PSFA requested feedback regarding SAT prep.   We will consider hosting a virtual PSFA and explore if we could invite other students from MCVSD and siblings from other schools.
  • The PSFA will host a driver’s education online class in the Spring provided that we can get 10 registrants. 
  • The PSFA hosted a spirit sale with Sneakers Plus and we will plan to do more in the future.  
  • We are looking for volunteers for the executive board for next year.  Please reach out to any of the Executive Board members if you are interested in joining.    
  • Treasurers Report – MaryAnn Doyle
  • The PSFA earned $19,100 with the Super 50/50.

  • Merchandise – Hope Pressler
      1. Spirit wear orders will be in by December 19 but possibly earlier.  Please check your email. 
  • Gift Auction  – Patti Riddle 
      1. The PSFA Gift Auction will be held on April 25, 2025 at The Breakers in Spring Lake, NJ.

Families can also donate cash and the PSFA will make purchases for the auction.  All donations are tax deductible.  Donations can also be other items not included on the list.   If you happen to receive a holiday gift that you cannot use, please consider donating it to the PSFA.

  • Membership – Krista Kingsley 
      1. Reminder to senior families that any student who plans to apply for the PSFA scholarship must have their family enrolled as a member of the PSFA.  https://chs-psfa.org/membership-renewal/
  • Public Relations   – Maureen Gilbert
      1. Be sure to follow the PSFA on Instagram! 
  • Hospitality – Lisa Lippincott
      1. January 28 and 29 will be bagel mornings for finals.  
      2. Career Day – February 7, 2025.  We will provide a light breakfast.  
  • Next PSFA Meeting is on February 6, 2025.  It will be virtual.
