Communications High School – PSFA Meeting

June 6, 2024 – Call to order at 7:03pm by Colleen Stemetzki

  • SGA – Phin Whedon
      1. Congratulations to the new SGA Board members.   The elections were conducted in May.  The new members are VP – Stela Feinstein; council members include: Shawn Ribeiro, Kyla Kidord and Brody Salowe.
      2. SGA has been planning and getting ready for Color Wars 2024 which will be held on 6/7/24.   We are grateful for the PSFA and all of its support and generosity.   
      3. Senior events are upcoming 
    1. Grant Request: Two students and Mrs. Guidos presented in favor of a grant in order to form a Queer Alliance Club.  Students presented on the need for a sponsored Queer Alliance Club.  They noted that it is important to for support and creating a safe community for our LGBT+ students.  The club plans to hold workshops, social gatherings and informative meetings.  The PSFA voted unanimously to issue a grant in an amount to be confirmed following the meeting for the 24-25 school year and will encourage the students to fundraise for the following year.  
    2. President’s Report – Colleen Stemetzki
      1. The May PSFA Minutes were accepted and approved. 
      2. Teacher Appreciation Week — The PSFA has cookies made for teachers, lunch for the staff and each staff member received a $25 Amazon gift card. 
  • Treasurer’s Report – MaryAnn Doyle
      1. We purchased the Color War shirts for all students and staff.   The PSFA also purchased gifts for each of the seniors for graduation.  Finally, the scholarships were paid for the seniors.
  • Fundraising Committee
      1. Hope Pressler  –  The PSFA will be ordering new merchandise once the school settles on the new logo.
      2. The Gift Auction will be held on Friday April 25, 2025 at The Breakers. 
  • Membership Committee – Teresita Weiss
      1.  We have a new freshman parent has agreed to co-chair the committee next year with Krista Kingsley.  Thank you to Teresita Weiss for all of your hard work.   
      2. We are working to try and raise the participation rates.   She proposed that any family who joins before August 31, 2024, they would receive a CHS t-shirt.   The PSFA held a vote on this proposal and it was unanimously approved.  
  • Book Club – Patti Riddle 
      1. This will start up again in the Fall 
  • Hospitality  – Lisa Lippincott
      1. We have someone who is going to shadow for next year and we are looking for one additional volunteer.  If you are interested, please reach out to Lisa.   
      2. Color Wars is tomorrow!  Thank you Meg O’Brien and Diane Makin for organizing this great event!  We are looking for 2 volunteers to chair Color Wars for the 24-25 school year.   
      3. We will have 2 bagel breakfasts for finals and the sign up will go out soon to senior parents first and then to all other classes if spots remain open. 
      4. Senior Fun Day –They will be having a breakfast, lunch and will have inflatables at the school for the seniors.   Additionally, they will having a senior boat trip next week.

  • Open Positions  – We are seeking volunteers for the following positions: 
  • Color Wars 
  • Co-President 
  • Beach Ice Cream Social  – The event is scheduled for 9/21/24 with rain date of 9/28/24 from 2-5 pm. 
  • The Board thanked Colleen Stemetzki for all of her hard work and for serving as President of the PSFA.
